System of a Down (or SOAD) is an American band that formed in 1994 and currently consists of four Armenian-Americans: Serj (lead vocals, keyboards), Daron (guitar, vocals), Shavo (bass, background vocals) and John (drums). The group went on hiatus in August 2006, but later reunited in November 2010. System of a Down has been nominated for 4 Grammy Awards and their song B.Y.O.B. won the Best Hard Rock Performance of 2006. The band doesn't maintain a single style and they don't really fit in one particular category. They include different genres like alternative metal, progressive rock, hard rock, experimental, heavy metal and trash metal. In their lyrics, System of a Down have often discussed topics such as drug abuse, politics, war and sexual intercourse. They are also widely known for their outspoken views of the Armenian Genocide (1915) and the War on Terrorism.
